How to Fix Windows Mobile Device Center


You will need Windows Administrative Authority to complete these tasks.

Starting with HardTrack Desktop version 5.1._02.31 or greater:

Typically after a Windows Update, the Windows Mobile Device Center will need to be updated for the connection between the PC and the Handheld to work.

1) Close HardTrack Desktop and run as the Administrative user,


2) click on Project, Upgrade Device, Windows Mobile Device Center, Update Windows Mobile Device Center


On the PC, start the Windows Mobile Device Center manually by clicking on the Windows Icon to locate Windows Mobile Device Center or by searching from Windows for Windows Mobile Device Center.

It has an icon of a green circle.


If Windows Mobile Device Center loads properly, it will appear like this:




It will look like this if your handheld is not in the docking station and powered on with the USB cable attached between the docking station and the PC




If when you start Windows Mobile Device Center, it does not fully start but remains on the loading screen,
you will need to update (2) Windows Services to correct a problem.  This is typical right after you install the software and later if a Windows Update is applied that affects Windows Mobile Device Center.

HardTrack Desktop can usually fix this problem, by running it as the Administrative user and clicking on Project, Upgrade Device, Windows Mobile Device Center, Update Windows Mobile Device Center





If this does not work, you can manually fix the issue by following these instructions.

Here are the instructions to fix the Services in Windows so that Windows Mobile Device Center will load properly:

Click on Control Panel, the Administrative Tools


Click on Services:


Scroll down to Windows Mobile-2003-Based device connectivity and double click on it to open



Click on the Log On tab and Click Local System account, then Click OK



Please repeat the process with Windows Mobile-based device connectivity, it should be the next item in the list of Services:





After Clicking OK, if you receive a message that you need to Restart the Service for the change to take effect, with  
Windows Mobile-based device connectivity highlighted using a single click, click Restart:
