It is generally recommended that the HTC Gateway be placed in a central location, at a high elevation, higher than the wireless logger being deployed at your project side.  For example, the ceiling of a building, under the eves of a building, etc.

Do not place the HTC Gateway or Sidecar in direct sunlight.  Devices should be placed in the shade away from direct sunlight.  In locations with limited shade, consider using the solar panel to create shade.

If the HTC Gateway Portable is configured to cover both short and long-range areas with its dual antennas.  It is recommended that the device be placed either in a central location of one of the areas and within 300 to 1,000 feet of the second area, or at a center location to both areas so that the HTC Gateway is within 300 to 1,000 feet of both areas.  The HTC Gateway can be configured with several different types of antennas: 1 or 2 omni directional antennas, 1 or 2 elliptical directional antennas, or a combination of both antennas.

Environmental conditions, such as high humidity, rain, snow, electrical transformers and other radio frequency emissions, particularly radio frequency emissions from devices that work within the 900 MHz to 960 MHz, may affect the ability of the HTC Gateway to provide wireless coverage in those areas.

Do not place the HTC Gateway in locations adjacent to or on the same communications towers as voice communications device transmitters, especially those operating within the 900 MHz to 960 MHz frequency range.

Warning:

Do Not attempt to move the HTC Gateway and Sidecar while they are connected to each other with the Sidecar cable.  Only move each device independently.

Turn off the Device Power on the Sidecar before attaching or removing the Sidecar connector cable.

When attaching the A/C Charger to either the HTC Gateway or the Sidecar, always toggle the input selector to Off.  After the A/C charger is attached to the device, toggle the input selector to A/C.

When attaching the Solar Trickle Charger to either the HTC Gateway or the Sidecar, always toggle the input selector to Off.  After the Solar Trickle charger is attached to the device, toggle the input selector to Solar.

The HTC Gateway with its onboard rechargeable battery power weighs approximately 22 lbs./10 kg.  If this weight is too heavy for you to lift alone, please ask someone to assist you with lifting the device or lift the device as a team with someone.
When moving the HTC Gateway, do not pick up the device by either antenna and do not pick up the device by the long-range antenna cable.  Please place one hand on the carrying handle and the other hand just under the hinges on the top back of the device to lift it.  It is okay to carry the device using both hands or a single hand on the carrying handle.  Care should be taken to not allow the back of the device to swing under and across abrasive services, that could damage the external ambient temperature sensor, the antennal cable running to the long-range antenna, or cause debris, dirt, dust, or concrete mix materials to enter the air cooling intake vent or fan output vents.

The Sidecar with its onboard rechargeable battery power weighs approximately 18 lbs./8 kg.  If this weight is too heavy for you to lift alone, please ask someone to assist you with lifting the device or lift the device as a team with someone.

For best results, providing the greatest amount of operational battery power, please follow these procedures:
- Fully charge the HTC Gateway with the A/C Charger with the HTC Gateway turned off.  A fully discharged device can take 24 to 48+ hours to fully charge.
- Fully charge the Sidecar the A/C Charger with the Sidecar turned off and detached from the HTC Gateway.  A fully discharged device can take 24 to 48+ hours to fully charge.
- After deploying the HTC Gateway and Sidecar to a project site, connect the Sidecar to the HTC Gateway using the supplied Sidecar connection able and power on the Sidecar.
- With the input toggle switch on the Sidecar in the Off position, connect to Solar Trickle Charger to the Sidecar.  After the Solar Trickle charger is attached to the Sidecar, switch the input toggle to Solar.
- It is very important that the HTC Gateway and Sidecar are tightly latched closed so that water, dirt, dust, etc. do not get inside of the devices.  The HTC Gateway and Sidecar are not dust and waterproof without beings tightly latched closed.
Note: Please remember to place the HTC Gateway and the Sidecar in the shade

The HTC Gateway has (2) cooling fans, an input fan for cool air and an output fan to help with dissipating heat.  Please keep the input and output free from debris.

The HTC Gateway will turn on its fan when the internal temperature reaches 37.78°C/100°F and the fan will stop again when the device cools to 32.22°C/90°F. The cooling fan can be manually controlled from HardTrack Desktop by clicking on the top menu, Gateway, Configuration, Cooling Fan Settings.

When placing the HTC Gateway at your project site, please place the device in a location that will not allow the device to become submerged under water.  The fans in the HTC Gateway are waterproof.  However if water is allowed to enter the HTC Gateway, electronics within the device will become corroded and shorten the device's service life.  Water damage is not covered under the devices warranty.
The HTC Gateway is equipped with an external ambient temperature sensor that can be used to measure the ambient temperature at each interval of a concrete placement that is being monitored.  Further instructions on how to add the HTC Gateway's ambient temperature to your HardTrack Project are provided within the document mentioned with the link below entitled: HTC Gateway - How to set up a new Concrete Pour - Best Practices.
Care should be taken to place the external ambient temperature sensor cable away from the exhaust coming from the fan vent on the back left of the HTC Gateway

Place the stainless steel tip of the ambient temperature sensor away from the fan vent on the left, out of the direct sunlight, and not touching anything.  It should be positioned so that air is able to move around the tip in all directions.

Hardware components of the HTC Gateway - Portable:

Large roller case

Use the large roller case to move all of the HardTrack temperature monitoring equipment to your job site and deployment location.
The large roller case weighs 75 lbs,/34 kg. with all of the equipment inside.
Do not attempt to lift the case alone.
When lifting the case, (2) people should lift the case togeather as a team.
Be careful not to drop the case on feet when lifting.
Be careful not to roll the fully loaded case over your foot.

When returning the equipment to the large roller case for storage or transportation , always power off the devices, especially the HTC Gateway so that it does not over heat.

HTC Gateway - Portable

Before deploying the HTC Gateway, remember to always fully charge the internal batteries using the A/C charger.  It can take 24 to 48+ hours to fully charge the batteries.

After deploying the HTC Gateway Portable, simply power it on and follow these instructions to get started with your first concrete pour:
2) When you start working with a wireless logger/tag for the first time or when you are ready to reuse a wireless logger/tag, take the option to Reuse a sensor or Reuse All sensors listed in a HardTrack project:
Either single click a sensor and then click on Sensors at the top, then Reuse Wireless Sensor(s), Reuse Sensor
or click on Sensors at the top, then Reuse Wireless Sensor(s), Reuse All Sensors to initialize.

- When a wireless logger/tag is brand new, it needs to be initialized so that it is no longer in low power consumption storage mode.  Reusing the wireless logger will wake it up and allow for longer distance communications between the HTC Gateway and the wireless logger.
- For wireless loggers that have been previously used, this will copy any data on the wireless logger and back it up and clear the wireless logger so that transferring data from the logger will occur quickly without the need to sort through old data.
HTC Gateway Sidecar (additional battery power)

Before deploying the Sidecar, remember to always fully charge the internal batteries using the A/C charger.  It can take 24 to 48+ hours to fully charge the batteries.

The Sidecar must be turned on after the Sidecar connection cable is attached to both the Sidecar and the HTC Gateway.  Otherwise, no battery power from the Sidecar will be provided to the HTC Gateway.

Sidecar connector cable

Always detach the Sidecar connection cable when moving the HTC Gateway and/or the Sidecar.  Do not attempt to move both devices with the Sidecar connection cable attached to both devices
(2) A/C chargers with waterproofing enclosures

Remove the power cord from the waterproof enclosure,

Although it is best to use the A/C charger indoors, Wake has supplied a waterproof enclosure for the A/C charger incase it is needed to charge a device in the field.  Please be certain to place the lid on the waterproof enclosure and snap both latched down to secure that charger within the waterproof enclosure.

position the input selector on the HTC Gateway or Sidecar to Off,

insert the round 5.5mm tip into the device,

plug the A/C charger into a power outlet,

position the input selector to A/C.

Solar Panel Trickle Charger

Operating the Solar Trickle Charger:
The 3 colorful LED indicators located on the back of the solar panel can help to visually monitor the operational status of charging and better understand the condition of your battery.
Red: In the sun;
Blue: Connect the Solar Panel to the Sidecar or HTC Gateway
Green: Batteries in the connected device are Fully charged.

The Solar panel comes with mounting hardware.  The screws to attach the mounting bracket to the solar panel will either already be on the solar panel or in the parts bag supplied with the mounting hardware and assembly instructions.

For best results, connect the Sidecar to the HTC Gateway, turn on the Sidecar. connect the Solar Trickle Charger to the Sidecar and select Solar on the input of the Sidecar.  This will provide the most battery power to the HTC Gateway.
The cable that runs from the solar panel to the device has been placed inside wire loom tubing conduit to help with extending the life of the cable and avoiding damage to the cable from sunlight and weather.
