Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.

This product contains components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharges. Please observe the special instructions for their protection. Incorrect handling can damage the unit and cause the invalidation of the warranty.

Minimum safety precautions against electrostatic discharge:
• Establish earth contact before you touch the unit. (For example, touch the grounding screw on the unit.) Best practice is to use an antistatic ribbon and ground yourself permanently for the time you handle anything inside the HTC Gateway enclosure.
• Avoid unnecessary contact with the unit connectors and assemblies inside the unit.
• Only open the unit if the installation instructions expressly require it.
• Use antistatic tools for the setting of the unit. (Warning: Do not touch life-threatening voltages with these tools).
• Do not store unit and components without protective packaging.
• Remove unit and components from the packaging only prior to installation.
These notes are not sufficient to guarantee complete protection from electrostatic discharges!  It is recommend to use suitable protective equipment.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The system described in this manual is for exclusive operation of trained employees. Only qualified personnel that have knowledge of the potential dangers involved should perform the installation, settings, maintenance and repair of the units used.

Operational Safety
The correct and safe use of these systems assumes that operating and service personnel follow the safety measures described in this document alongside the generally acceptable safety procedures.
If there is a possibility that safe operations cannot be guaranteed, the system must be switched off, secured against accidental use and the service unit responsible immediately informed.
Grounding
Before establishing any connections the housing of the system must be grounded.
Radio Frequency (RF) Exposure Compliance of Radio Communication Apparatus
To satisfy FCC and ISED RF Exposure requirements for mobile devices, a separation distance of 20 cm/8 inches or more should be maintained between the antenna of this device and persons during operation. To ensure compliance, operation at closer than this distance is not recommended. This transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.

It is generally recommended that the HTC Gateway be placed in a central location, at a high elevation, such as a communications tower, the ceiling of a building, under the eves of a building, etc.

If the HTC Gateway is configured to cover 2 or more areas with dual antennas, it is recommended that the device be placed either in a central location of one of the areas and within 300 to 1,000 feet of the second area, or at a center location so that the HTC Gateway is within 300 to 1,000 feet of both areas.  The HTC Gateway can be configured with either 1 or 2 omni directional antennas, 1 or 2 elliptical directional antennas, or a combination of both antennas.

Environmental conditions, such as high humidity, rain, snow, electrical transformers and other radio frequency emissions, particularly radio frequency emissions from devices that work within the 900 MHz to 960 MHz, may affect the ability of the HTC Gateway to provide wireless coverage in those areas.

Do not place the HTC Gateway in locations adjacent to or on the same communications towers as voice communications device transmitters operating within the 900 MHz to 960 MHz frequency range.

1) Carefully remove the HTC Gateway from the shipping carton, taking care not to damage the connectors and cable glands protruding from the bottom of the HTC Gateway - Stationary device.

When removing the packaging and bubble wrap from the elliptical polarized antenna, care must be taken to not damage the coax cable, which is permanently attached to the antenna. Do not pull cable away from antenna at the base of the cable attached to the antenna.

Antenna provides a wide apex angle (120º)

2) Before plugging the HTC Gateway into A/C power, switch the wireless reader's backup battery on by depressing the toggle switch, so that "I" is pressed in.  LED lights will illuminate.  Failure to switch on the backup battery will cause potential reader errors when A/C power is disrupted.

3) The A/C Power Cord that is provided can be used to test the HTC Gateway and/or it can be permanently used to provide power to the device.

If you choose to run A/C power directly to the HTC Gateway, only a state licensed electrician should perform this task.

The HTC Gateway requires 120 volt A/C power

Do not plug any other device into either of the (2) open A/C receptacles within the enclosure.  This will void all warranties.

4) HTC Gateway devices configured with an Ethernet connection.  Please use the supplied waterproof Ethernet cable gland housing to protect the customer supplied Ethernet cable and the Ethernet connection on the HTC Gateway device.  Failure to use the waterproof cable gland housing will result in water damage to the HTC Gateway as well as the customer supplied Ethernet cable.

For customers attaching Ethernet to the HTC Gateway, rather than using a cellular connection, you will receive information via email from customer_care@wakeinc.com with instructions regarding network access, firewall settings, etc. so that the HTC Gateway can communicate with the HardTrack Cloud database.

5) Mounting the HTC Gateway enclosure.
Stainless Steel Wall Mount hardware has been provided to mount the enclosure on a flat surface, such as a wall, mounting board, etc.

Please make sure that the surface that you intend to mount the enclosure to can handle a minimum of 25 pounds of weight, such as 3/4" thick plywood

Attach the (4) mounting feet to the back of the enclosure.  Make certain that you do not damage the cooling and heating vents on the front of the enclosure while completing this process.

Alternative heavy duty pole mount options for the enclosure are available from Wake, Inc.

6) Grounding the HTC Gateway, lightning protectors, and antennas

Follow licensed electrician's recommendation for attaching the customer supplied grounding cables to a proper earth ground

7) Attaching the antennas to the HTC Gateway's lighting protectors.

Elliptical Antenna
After firmly mounting the elliptical antenna with the provided lag bolt hardware, attach the supplied coax cable from the elliptical antenna to the right, antenna 2, lightning protector.

Wrap the connection with the supplied silicon tape to protect the connection from water damage.

This antenna is intended to provide RF coverage to a more distant area from the the HTC Gateway's immediately surrounding area, such as a second precast yard or nearby work area, or to provide RF coverage in dead spots.  Take care to aim the elliptical antenna directly at the location that you wish to provide RF coverage to.

Rod/Omni Antenna
Extend the supplied coax cable into the bottom of the antenna mount so that is protrudes from the top of the mounting pipe.  Firmly attach the coax cable to the antenna.
Wrap the connection with the supplied silicon tape to protect the connection from water damage.

The antenna mount should be mounted so that the antenna is at a 90 degree angle to the ground, pointing straight up.

Monopoles are provided for greater support and to withstand high winds.

After firmly mounting the rod antenna with the provided lag bolt hardware, attach the supplied coax cable from the rod antenna to the left, antenna 1, lightning protector.

Wrap the connection with the supplied silicon tape to protect the connection from water damage.
